Our leader, Wakil, was himself a refugee. He and his family fled Afghanistan when he was a young boy and sought refuge in Pakistan. Years later, Wakil took a leadership position with a US-based nonprofit serving in Afghanistan and eventually moved his family to the United States.
Today he is a US citizen and founder and leader of Epek International, a growing and vital organization serving Afghans in Afghanistan and NYC. He spends about half his time in Afghanistan, traveling even during the Coronavirus pandemic to oversee critical projects.
Our Epek work truly does positively impact and transform lives and communities in ways that only an Afghan-led organization that understands the culture, specific needs, and challenges can do.
